2250 Applicant Eligibility Requirements Specific to TANF

2251 Work Program Requirements for Applicants - All adults applying for TANF must complete the orientation tutorial and the self-assessment, including those who have been disqualified for or denied TANF due to non-cooperation, drug testing requirements or fraud. Adults who are not otherwise eligible for TANF such as ineligible non-citizens, relative/non-relative caretakers and adults receiving SSI/SSDI do not have to complete the orientation tutorial and the self-assessment.

Note: Applicants enrolled in Job Corps are exempt from completing the Self-Assessment and the orientation tutorial.

Note: An applicant that requires a translator to communicate in English is still required to complete the Self-Assessment but is exempt from completing the orientation tutorial. The work program case manager will review information contained in the orientation with the client when they meet with the client.

Note: The self-assessment and the orientation tutorial are TANF eligibility requirements. Self-declaration of disability does not excuse the client from completing these requirements. If the client has an impairment that prevents them from meeting either of these requirements, a PA will need to review and approve the exclusion of the requirement for the client. Determination of disability will be completed and documented by the work programs staff upon the approval of TANF benefits.

NOTE: This includes mandatory TANF adults who are being added to an open TANF case.
