12. Avoid Trite Expressions
Trite expressions are sometime called cliches. Unfortunately they come to mind very easily, and when writing, you must consciously guard against them.
Below are some examples of trite expressions:
- In no uncertain terms
- Out of the clear blue sky
- Calm before the storm
- In this day and age
Trite expressions generally make writing dull rather than bright.
