Effective July 1, 2010, the Funeral Assistance Program is being suspended for SFY 2011. The change is based on budgetary action taken by the Kansas Legislature in 2010.  Sufficient funds to authorize benefits were not allocated for the Funeral Assistance Program, therefore necessitating the suspension of the program.  

To implement this change, no applications for Funeral Assistance may be taken after May 31, 2010.

In addition, all Funeral Assistance applications received prior to June 1, 2010 must be processed by June 15, 2010 and all payments should be authorized by that date to allow for processing and payment prior to the start of the new fiscal year on July 1.  No payment can be authorized on or after 5:00 pm on June 25, 2010 for Funeral Assistance regardless of when the application for funeral assistance was received. This is the end of the fiscal year, and per the FY 10 Fiscal Close memo of May 19, 2010, all vendor payments must be entered by that date.

KAESCES notices V399 Burial Assistance Denial and V400 Burial Assistance Approval will be end-dated effective July 1, 2010.  In addition, V398 Funeral Assistance Program Suspended will be added to KAESCES so that staff will have an appropriate notice to send for Funeral Assistance applications received on or after June 1, 2010.
