12000 Summer EBT

12100 Summer EBT Program Summary

Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer, also known as Summer EBT, SEBT, or SUN Bucks, is an assistance program that helps eligible families with school-aged children pay for groceries during the summer months when children are not receiving free or reduced school lunch at school. This benefit is distributed with a single annual issuance.

12110 Summer Operational Period

Summer EBT operates during the summer months, during what is called the Summer Operational Period. In Kansas, the Summer Operational Period is May 1 through August 31. This period is meant to reflect roughly the period of time when most schools in Kansas are out of session for summer break.

As the Summer EBT benefit is meant to help families with purchasing food during the summer months, benefits are only issued leading up to and during the Summer Operational Period. Children identified for streamlined certification by meeting the criteria outlined in the next section,  as well as children whose eligibility is established by application during the instructional year, will be issued benefits 7 to 14 days before the start of the Summer Operational Period. Children whose eligibility is established by application during the Summer Operational Period will be issued benefits within 15 days of application submission.
