ABAWD NOA Snippets

ABAWD NOA snippets are designed to display in Food Assistance Approval NOAs any time a client becomes an ABAWD or any time their ABAWD time limit record status changes to Did not meet work/training requirement. KEES is not displaying the ABAWD NOA snippets as intended when an ABAWD has a blank time limit status record in the month prior to adding a record of Did not meet work/training requirement. Until this issue is fixed, staff need to add the standard copy and paste text below to the comments section of the approval NOA if the ABAWD information does not populate in the approval NOA.

*NAME* has *NUMBER* ABAWD month(s) remaining to get Food Assistance, benefits begin *MM/DD/YYYY* and end *MM/DD/YYYY*.  Federal law limits food assistance benefits to 3 months out of every 36 month period for people who meet all three of the following: are age 18-49, are able to work but not working or in a training program at least 20 hours per week, and have no dependents or other minor children living in the home. The 3 month limit does not apply to a person who is disabled and unable to work, working at least 20 hours a week, participating in a training program at least 20 hours a week, age 50 or older, pregnant, getting unemployment compensation, participating in an alcohol or drug treatment program, attending high school, college, vocational/technical school or other school. If the person(s) has a change in their situation and you think they may be able to get food assistance, please contact your DCF office for more information.

REMINDER: Entering ABAWD Time Limit Records

UPDATE: ABAWD months will start counting July 1, 2023. To reduce the risk of closing a Food Assistance program in error, staff should be completing the Time Limit records when needed. The “Did not meet work/training requirement” record type can be used starting with the July 2023 benefit month beginning on Friday May 19th. This is when July becomes available as a come up month in KEES.  As a reminder, “Did not meet work/training requirement” is only added through come up month. All other time limit record statuses are added through the next Review or IR month as shown in the chart below.

Making sure Time Limit records have been entered correctly will help ensure data collection for ABAWDS is accurate when the ABAWD batch resumes in a few months. A month with no Time Limit record will be treated as a countable ABAWD month by KEES.  The current ABAWD period is 10/2022-09/2025. Make sure Time Limit records are added to the current ABAWD period. For guidance on how to add an ABAWD period and Time Limit record in KEES, see the KEES User Manual.
