Income from Child/Spousal Support - Family Medical

Use the Average Calculator to prospectively budget income from child/spousal support. See the steps under Adding Income for help navigating to the Income Detail page.

One child support record is added per child and per child support order.

From the Income Detail page:

  1. Select the Frequency the income is received from the drop-down menu.

NOTE: Frequency needs to be set to whatever is in the Average Calculator.

Example: If child support is received and recorded weekly in the Average Calculator, select Weekly as the Frequency. If it is received every other week, select Every Two Weeks. The Frequency should always match what is being recorded in the Average Calculator.

NOTE: If child support is received sporadically, the user may need to determine a monthly average off system, then use Once a Month as the Frequency and the Monthly Average in the Reported Amount. If a monthly amount is determined off system the user should always keep a Journal record of how the support amount was determined.

  2. Enter the First and Last Name of the person paying the support in the Person Paying Name text box.

  3. Under the Income Amounts block, select Family Medical from the Display Programs drop-down menu.

  4. Click the Add button.

  5. In the Average Calculator enter the Date Received for the child/spousal support amounts.

  6. In the Average Calculator Amount field enter the Child/Spousal Support Amount received.

  7. For the Count in Average column, if any amounts are not representative and should not be included in the calculation select No from the drop-down menu, otherwise leave the value defaulted to Yes.

  8. To record multiple support amounts, click the Add button to create an additional support value in the Average Calculator.

NOTE: The user should leave the Divisor defaulted to one. The calculator determines a monthly amount based on the information entered in the Average Calculator.

  9. If the support is for more than one person select the Number of Children from the drop-down menu. If the income is spousal support or is for only one child the user does not need to select a value.

  10. Enter all payment/check amounts and click the Calculate button.

  11. To ensure that all income requirements are calculated correctly for all programs, select the Use button to import the information to the Reported Amount field. The Reported Amount field is what EDBC uses in the income determination.

  12. Set the Begin Date to either the first day of application month for a new application, the first day of the first prior Medical month for prior Medical, or the date of the first paycheck for a change to an ongoing program.

  13. Select the Verification for the Verified drop-down menu.

  14. Select the Source of the Verification.

  15. Enter the Spousal Support Agreement/Modification Date in the text box or use the calendar icon.

NOTE: Alimony or Spousal Support received before 12/31/2018 is Countable Income. Alimony or Spousal Support received after 12/31/2018 is Exempt Income.

  1. Click the Save and Return button. The Income Detail page displays.

  1. Click the Save and Return button.

NOTE: If the calculator is being used for child support income and there is more than one child on the record, then the record can be copied to capture income for the other child(ren) by selecting the Copy button.
